The BS 5839-1 which is the British Standard Code of practice for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of all fire systems in non-domestic premises identifies eight categories of systems, please see the table below which outlines these eight categories.

Category M SystemThese are manual systems and therefore, incorporate no automatic fire detectors.
Category L SystemThese are automatic fire detection systems intended for the protection of life.

L2 SystemA subcategory to the L Systems these systems are installed only in defined parts of the building, including all parts necessary to satisfy the recommendations of the code for a Category L3 system. Fire Alarm System

conventional fire systems

Conventional fire detection offers a good basic system, ideal for smaller applications, or projects on a tight budget and also ideal for small businesses and HMO Buildings.

Radio / Wireless Fire Alarm Systems

Radio or wireless fire alarm systems which they are also known, operate very similar to a addressable system but without the need to install cables. The devices use radio signals to communicate between the control panels with each of the devices. Each device has its own individual address and specific location.

The wireless fire alarm systems are much simpler to install compared to conventional and addressable systems. These systems require limited cabling and can be programmed off site which reduces the labour time spent on site. The lack of cables also means that there will be minimal damage to your building.

Addressable fire systems

An addressable fire alarm system is a series of both fire detectors and devices that are linked back to a central control panel.

With addressable systems, each of them devices has an address or location, this enables the exact detector that was triggered to be identified quickly. This means that addressable alarm systems are ideal for larger buildings, especially commercial premises that are spread over a wide area.

System monitoring

Fire stoppers can offer 24/7 monitoring of your fire alarm system. Should a detector be activated, then a call can be forwarded to our monitoring station (using a Dualcom system). Our Team can determine weather to call the fire brigade and get urgent assistance.
